The word “soul mate” has been known to mean different things according to research , history or the nature of relationships in question.
A soul mate to a lover is someone who makes you feel complete or to some, a union that feels way beyond the physical.
Some traditions or culture believe that a soulmate is someone your soul recognises from either a past life or centuries years ago. They feel very familiar to you from the first moment you meet. You feel at home with them and trust them instinctively and no matter how you try to fight it or pretend otherwise. You cannot deny that they make you very aware of your current situation.
In some parts of Asia, it is believed that soulmates are lovers in their past lives that keep searching for each other through different lifetimes and although destiny may try to keep them apart, they always find their way back to each other eventually with the help of the universe.
Some things are too strange to be coincidences….

Well.. I think a soul mate could also be your friend; either a male or female friend. It could just be that they get you and know how to push you to assume your best potential.
Your soulmate is not someone who comes into your life peacefully. It is one who comes to make you question things, Who changes your reality. Somebody that marks a before or after in your life. It is not the human everyone has idealized, but an ordinary person who revolutionize your world in a second.
“When two souls fall in love, there is nothing else but the yearning to be close to each other. The presence that is felt through a hand held, a voice heard or a smile seen”.
“Souls are said to not have a calendar or clock, nor do they understand the notion of time. “They only know if feels right to be with one another” .
This is the reason why you miss someone so much when they are not there. Even if they were in the very next room to you or far across the globe with several oceans in between.
This brings me to ask “can we possibly have more than one Soul mate? Or is it just a word people throw around when they feel some special connection with someone or others?”
Before I attempt to answer that.. Let me just say this :-
“One day you will find that pairing soul. It will be a feeling beyond your imagination. You cannot help but adore them. You will feel your whole heart melt for this person. This beautiful soul will bring joy, laughter, calmness and so much inspiration that you will finally see ‘hope’ in front of you.
For once, you can actually say ‘I'm in love and I can picture and see a future with this person. I can share my life with this person.

With all these talks about a soulmate. It's only fair that we mention sure ways to spot or identify yours when you meet the one. Apart from the obvious familiarity your soul recognizes. A soulmate can be so much more. There could also be more than one in some very rare instances.
Like Charlotte York said, from the popular 90’s sitcom “Sex and the city; Maybe our girlfriends are our soul mates and men are just people to have fun with.”
